Lithiasis are generated in the urinary tract as a result of a supersaturation of certain solutes in the urine (oxalate, calcium, phosphate, uric acid, among others). The clinical cause that is frequently the reason for consultation is renal colic. This is characterized by acute low back pain with varying intensity, which requires high-dose analgesia and is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
Lithiasis need treatment to cure the discomfort and avoid future complications, the treatment may consist of:
- Expulsive medical treatment.
Ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy (intervention where the urethra is accessed endoscopically and the lithiasis is broken and removed).
Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy; without the need for surgery, a series of impulses are transmitted to the skin that reach the stone, break it and then expel the fragments.
Open surgery, percutaneous surgery.
It is important once the lithiasis is resolved, to carry out a metabolic study to prevent new ones from being generated.
